Fan of the Fan

Fan chair. Peacock chair. Whatever you want to call it, I've liked them for a while now. A friend of mine commented once that they remind her of Fantasy Island (if you don't get the reference I'm sorry, I'm obviously dating myself).

Be that as it may, I found this one on Craigslist the other day and promptly snatched it up.
My plan is to paint it white, change the cushion to a fun fabric and put it in Meg's room. She actually likes it which is a bonus, not that I'd ever let that stop me. Just kidding.

I realize fan chairs might be so 2009 (or 1977), but I don't care. I need a little unexpected something in her room so it doesn't look too traditional. Gotta mix it up a little sometimes. When researching fan chairs, I couldn't find a lot of shots of interiors containing them. I know they're out there, but I got lazy. Anyway, I did find one Pieces sold a while back for $1850!
I realize this one is a little different, but still. $1850? I'll take my $15 Craigs find any day.

Here's a much more reasonable one from H&H Home for $395 (did you detect the sarcasm in that statement?).
I'll be sure and post some after shots of my fan chair once I actually paint it and get a new cushion.

So, are you a fan of the fan? Or do you think it should have been retired when Fantasy Island was canceled?

Fantasy Island used to scare me to death! Now I'm dating myself, too. :)

Funny post--and I say do what makes you (and daughter) happy, whether it's so 1977 or not! Looking forward to seeing you work your magic.

I love the idea of adding something unexpected in Meg's room. I'm sure you'll work your magic on it and it will look amazing.

I JUST saw one of those at a used furniture store this weekend. I too had the urge to snatch it up, but ultimately I have too many chairs as it is and I'm broke as a joke right now.

I have no doubt yours will look stupendous. What color are you going to do?

So, I admit, I've never seen an episode of "Fantasy Island," but if the name's any indication, I'm sure it would make any room feel a little more like vacation! Are you planning on sewing the new cushion?

Thanks, everyone. And yes, Sissy, FI did come on after Love Boat, and Angela, it scared me a bit too (when I could stay up to watch it - although I think it was Friday night :)

Naomi, I think I'll paint it white and pick a bright fun fabric for the cushion.

Ashley, I might try to sew the cushion although I'm still a little frightened of my sewing machine. Baby steps!

I actually bought a couple of peacock chairs about 5 years ago when I found out I was going to have triplets. They reminded me of chairs that a queen would sit in still have all the control...I felt I was loosing all control and needed a pick me up..haha

I could not imagine paying 1800 whatever for a chair like that.

I like this option as well but in the destroyers room I think it would be dead in a week. my guess is little girls are more civilized and less destructive than boys...? Great score I need to hit Craigs again. Hard.

I can't believe they charge 1850.00 for one at Pieces! That is outrageous! You got a bargain and I think painted white it will be awesome!

Oh I remember Fantasy Island - it was a treat to stay up late and watch it on Saturday night!

I think these chairs can work in the right setting - just don't get too tiki bar/ hawaii 5-0 with them
