I think my major "Aha" moment in designing my own home is when I took the plunge and painted my dining room cobalt blue. I had been thinking that I needed a rich but bright color to set off my white pagoda mirror and abstract art, and finally summoned the courage to do it last year . . .
I couldn't love it more, and it makes me happy every day when I walk through my front door. My "Aha" moment was realizing it's sometimes the small things like a paint color that can make all the difference in a space.
What has been your "a-ha" moment in design?

Kathy, your dining room is so pretty and your mirror looks fabulous against that color. Can't think of a standout aha moment - at my house the design usually evolves and takes little detours - I'm constantly tweaking.
An 'AHA' moment indeed. What a bold impact the paint made! I guess for me, I'd have to say my copycat Stray Dog Design papier mache tables--the fact that I could finish such a project made me feel pretty good.
Absolutely love this color!your dining room is simply gorgeous, and has given me inscentive to paint mine!!
i like that AHA moment :)
loved getting to meet you, kathy. i'm sorry that i didn't make it back to the events so we could have more time to chat!!
I absolutely LOVE your dining room! You really did kill it when you chose that color.

Do I have to pick just one?! I feel like I have them all the time when designing spaces for clients. In fact, I find when I don't have one, I feel like the space isn't finished. totally addictive, those aha moments. M.
I love your dining room... great aha moment! Mine was most recently during an install when we put lots of antlers on a kitchen hood... looked like we designed (which we didn't) the hood for that very purpose...
That dining room still kills me with awesomeness.
I so enjoy your dining room. Such a fun space! (Though I remain insanely jealous of your mirror.)
Hi! I'm back. Can't wait to hear all about Blogfest. Love the blue.
Your dining room is amazing...love the color!!
Its the details of our lives I think that in some respects make the impact. Its only once in a while the big picture matters. I loves these photos of the details.
