Sew, A Needle Pulling Thread

Well, I did it. I faced my fear and took a sewing class today. And I lived to tell about it. Oh, and I made a pillow. Yeah, me! Without further ado, here it is . . .
I know all you Etsy girls are shaking in your boots. This 16-inch pillow took me a mere three hours to make.
Check out that craftsmanship. Yes, that is cording and a zipper. My skills are unparalleled. I hope you're picking up on my sarcasm. Seriously though, I owe a lot to my ever-patient teacher Gail at JoAnn's who repeatedly asked me every time I messed up (which was about every 30 seconds), "What are you so afraid of?" My simple answer, "Screwing up the pillow!"

Now, I've just got to get a pillow insert. I'm thinking of putting it in Meg's room. I swear I haven't forgotten to show you an after of her room . . . progress has been made, but it's still a work in progress. Next order of business: sewing bedskirts. I'm convinced I can tackle them now. No fear!

I found this poster that should be my new mantra . . .

Have you faced any fears lately?

Funny you post this. You will see tomorrows post how I messed up a simple cushion for a bench going in the booth. Hey at least you know how to sew a zipper. Congrats on your new sewing skills.

Congrats! Beautiful pillow.....love the fabric. Be careful I hear it can be contagious.....a friend of mine signed up for a sewing class over the period of a month and now shes unstoppable..making clothes for her daughter, pillows, window panels, she made me the cutest apron for my bday.....have fun!

Isn't it funny how we get so nervous about little things like this? Kathy, your pillow looks great!! I predict a sewing tutorial will soon appear here!

Love it! The tip I got for inserts was to use the biggest one I could fit inside and if needed use extra stuffing for the corners. Makes all the difference.

You rock! I'm impressed. Great pattern too.

I wish I could find a great sewing class here that fits into my schedule. There are some but either the projects don't interest me or the times don't work for me.

Good luck on your bedskirts. I just uncovered a stack of jeans I planned to hem. Someday. *sigh*

Kathy.....wowza! I remember when I took sewing about 5 years ago! Dang I bought a sewing machine and went to town. I was obsessed but the only place I had to put it was on the DR table. Pretty soon the DR looked like a sweat shop. It drove me crazy. I put it away and now every time I think about getting it out I just say...awwwww I will just run these over to my fabricators. It will be less messy :)
