Found

If you've read my blog in the past few months, you know of my deep desire to find vintage upholstered X benches. Well, I didn't find X benches, but some vintage benches that spoke to me just the same.
Not the most spectacular upholstery but as they were just $7 each, I grabbed them. Now, the daunting task of finding a fabric.

My husband prefers them tucked under the Parson's sofa table (which is patiently waiting for its makeover). And, no, my floors are not as orange as they look in this photo. Although, they are too orange for my taste. Believe me, refinishing is on the list. The never-ending list.

I thought the benches looked very similar to some that Angie Hranowsky used in a bedroom . . .
Oh, how I love this room.
Okay, back to my benches.
Sorry for the horrible lighting. You should know this was during the flood yesterday.
Since this room is fairly brown neutral, color is needed in a big way (as I mentioned yesterday in my post about pillows). Most of the color I have now is in my rug and accessories.
My kids tend to follow me when I start snapping photos.

Here are some fabrics I'm loving right now (in no particular order) . . .
Robert Allen's Tioga in Paprika
this crazy-expensive but great Highland Court fabric
and this color-saturated vintage Chinoiserie fabric from eBay.
I would love to do the Tioga on the benches and the Chinoiserie fabric on some pillows for the slipper chairs, but I don't think I can do Tioga if I get these beauties for Mother's Day . . .
That's just too much diamond/geometric pattern going on. So, if you have any thoughts, please do share. Any fabulous fabrics you've run across that might look great with the colors I've got going on (mainly a shrimpy/coral color, chartreuse and/or teal/turquoise)? Should I ditch the pillows in La Fiorentina and get the benches recovered in Tioga? Anyone? Help a sister out.

I vote for the eBay fabric. Oh, and you ned to come home and check out our Habitat store. It is off Riverdale now I think, so dangerously close to your stomping grounds.

Kathy lets check out Anon habitat store!!

You made out good and I owe you a big one for sending me to that thrift store. And your husband is right they look good underneath the sofa table. I kinda like these benches more because unlike the x-benches not everyone has them. I like the highland court fabric and ebay fabric the best.

Could you sell a limb and get the highland court fabric? Kidding of course, but that one is my favorite. Great find by the way. 8 dollars?!?! I love them!

Okay, so where to begin. So many comments, so here is my best attempt at organizing them:

a) I'm totally jealous. Seriously, I'm seething over here

b) Best $14 ever spent

c) I'm totally digging them in front of the coffee table. Husband be damned!

d) Love your rug, portraits, and big ol' yellow lamp

e) As always, I'm into the uber-expensive fabric (the Highland Court), but I think any of your choices would be great

f) Didn't really have a point f, but just wanted to show you how much I'd thought about this one post

Happy weekend, Kathy!

$7??? Whoa!!

I like the last two - feels like a little blue/teal would do these great benches some good.

Pretty rug, too!

OMG, what a find ! I am so jealous. The Parson table tuck away is a great look, but I also like it next to the coffee table. Decision, decisions.....

I LOVE these! Actually much better than x-benches. They remind me of the chairs that Meg Braff just used in a place in Miami (in a recent coastal living) and that Grace Bonney just wrote about on Design Sponge. Except I can't remember who makes them!

Anyway. Love.

They do look great under the console but I feel like they should be presented in all of their glory out in the open. WHAT a steal and I am partial to the Tioga.

What a great deal- they're a beautiful shape! I also like the Tioga- they would look great with those beautiful pillows! A chevron print in green/cream wouold also look nice! It would match with your beautiful blog header! :)

Wow, they look great! I just came across your blog and love it - I'm your newest follower! Using one of your cowhide rug photos from posts past in a post this week - thanks for the inspiration.

Alrightly, I'm seething with envy. No, just kidding, I am thrilled that you found these and for such a steal! I happen to think you can combine all of those fabrics in the same space, including both geometrics. I think there will be a nice continuity. That said, if you're looking for a steal on fabric and you have a trip to Atlanta planned, I have a secret local fabric source where everything is $4.99 or less per yard. You have to dig for the good stuff, but I've found some serious scores nonetheless.
