Fiddle-leaf fig trees are all over design magazines and blogs. I love them and have looked for them off and on in Nashville for quite some time without much success. I've actually found a couple at Home Depot, but they're always short versions . . . nothing like the lanky ones in the magazines. But then, I lucked out and found a garden center just five minutes from my house that sells them!
Ficus Lyrata aka the elusive fiddle-leaf fig. |
Maybe I'll reassess after I get that other big green tree out of my house (and also, see if I have any money left after Christmas). Is the fiddle-leaf fig on your wish list?

I would love one, but pretty sure I would murder it with my black thumb and black soul. Question is...are they high maintenance?
I've always loved them, but it always seems to be way down on the list of "wants." Plus, I think my one year old would find a way to destroy it. Might have to wait 'till that one's in college!
ohhhh....I LOVE them! Love how they are tall and skinny and then balloon out like that. I have a tall bare corner in my LR that is just screaming for one.
We have fig trees that grow up as weeds in our yard all the time. I'm betting they'd be pretty hard to kill if they grow like weeds.
I have always love them. They have been on my wish list for a while. They are super gorgeous and would look great anywhere in a home. You are so lucky to find these near your area. I have been searching high and low but have no such luck. :(
P/S: Come by and enter my current giveaway for a chance to win a charm bracelet, if you like. Today is the last day for entries.

I was just at Home Depot today in Berry Hill seeing if they may have one or two...they didn't...but love that they do exist in Nashville!! I have the perfect place for 2 of them...but I also do not have a green thumb so I am being very cautious about buying! Take care, Caroline
Making me happy for a long time, I have wanted to get a fiddle fig tree... or what ever you call them? My normally user-friendly, plant loving husband put the brakes on a purchase. He just doesn't feel the love.
What I do know about the plants/trees is that they need light. Maybe lots of light. If you don't have a light infused room, you probably shouldn't bring one home. Unlike Christmas trees, you can't just tuck them in any corner.
Still working on putting up seasonal greenery.
mb from big D.
PS your tree looks great. Well done girl.
mb again
I can't keep any plant alive, unfortunately, but I'm glad to hear that you found them in Nashville. What nursery?
I told my clients to get one for their living room. It has a similar basket pot as that last image.
I love it long time.
Yes, post Christmas gift indeed :)
That's one cool looking tree!
Yeah I would definitely kill it so it wouldn't be worth the investment. I brought home a bamboo sort of tall indoor plant from a shoot and it started falling over and breaking off. So I trimmed it short and now it seems to be doing ok. I'll see how I do with the free one before making the investment!
I have two of them both of which I got at Home Depot. I think you have to be there the day they get them in.
I will say this, if you get good light, they are pretty low maintenance but slow growing! If they're not happy with the light they'll start dropping leaves and when they're that big, you can't afford to lose them.
Good luck to you!
Oh, yes, indeed. If my apartment wasn't such a dark cave, I've shell out the $125+ for one, whether my husband liked it or not. So, until I move to a nice, bright home, I'll have to live vicariously through you when you get yours!
P.S. Your Christmas tree is beautiful!
I have 2 smaller ones. One is almost dying(not enough sunlight I guess) and the other one is doing fairly good! I have a black thumb too but it is actually pretty low maintenance. Good sunlight is key.
Yes I love them!
Hi what nursery did you say you found the taller fiddle leaf fig near your house? I live in Lenox Village and need to fill a corner in my condo and a 5-6 foot FLF would be perfect! Thanks so much!
Hi Alexandra,
Thanks for stopping by. I found my fiddle leaf fig tree at Hewitt's Garden Center. I think they've also had some at Creekside Garden Center too. Good luck!
Awesome! Thank you so much! :)
