New Doors!

As I've mentioned, ad nauseum, we finally got new French doors to replace our old sliding glass system. I love them so much.
They finally got painted last week, but I have had a really hard time getting a good photo of them  (what with all the sunshine pouring in - a photographer I am not). And although my husband is a much better photographer with much better equipment and I need to get him to take some better shots, I couldn't wait to share them with you, so please forgive the poor photo quality.

Here's a reminder of what our old sliding glass doors looked like . . .
They were not in the best shape . . .
That's condensation trapped between the panes of our sidelites (stupid broken seal). Lovely, huh? It was time for them to go.

I decided to paint the new doors black to mimic the look of steel doors, which were a little out of my price range. These are extra tall Pella doors. I had them remove the transom, and the taller doors were a perfect fit (well, after a little retro-fitting, but no additional opening had to be cut - yay!). I love the expanded view of the woods through the taller doors. Here's the unpainted wood before the painters arrived . . .
And, now, once again, painted . . .

You can also see our newly painted black mantel in these shots . . .

Oh, and the view from the deck. On the outside, they're actually Iron Ore instead of stark black . . .
Check back soon, as I've got some other little updates to my living room space that I'll be sharing in the near future . . .

Oh ma gaw. Kathy, they are fantastically beautiful. Well worth the wait!

And while usually I love transoms, I love the extra tall doors. Beautiful!

Oh gosh this looks so pretty, Kathy! I myself have a pair of circa 1972 sliding glass doors crying out for the dumpster! I do like the taller doors without the transoms. I think the uninterrupted lines make them look even more impressive. Excited to see more!

Love the new doors! Aren't you smart to paint them black--tres chic. Great improvement. (I have new Pella windows-pricy, but so worth it.)

Whoa! Your new doors are light-years better than your old ones! :) When I looked at the first picture, I thought that there was too much light coming into the room. I bet it was difficult to deal with condensation on the glass again and again. The black-colored doors complement the room quite nicely! It seems like you’re living in a hotel suite. It’s just grand. Congratulations!

I think Shawnda is correct. The French door certainly goes well with the design of your space. It adds beauty and sophistication in the room. But aside from the aesthetics, there are a lot of advantages of having French doors in your house. One is you can customized the security features of this door. It is easier to install locks with this type of door than on sliding doors. Also, it can create an illusion of extra space because of the glass panels.

I love the new French door better that the sliding door. The four glass panes allow for a good view of the outside. The new color is also a perfect match to the home interiors. It appears so elegant! Well done!
