Next Design Capital: Nashville

Have you heard? Nashville is the next big thing in design. Oh yes. First off, there's this fabulous event coming soon . . .
That's right, the Tag Sale I've been teasing all these weeks has finally been set. Mark your calendars and plan your road trips accordingly. This is a don't-miss sale with goods from some of the most savvy Nashville bloggers out there - Me, You and a Wiener, ModFruGal and SquirrelPearl/Acorn + Archer (oh, and me too). It will be in a parking lot (I know, fancy), so hopefully the weather will cooperate.

In other news, while watching HGTV last night (which I don't do very often, so excuse me if this is old news), I saw a preview of a "sneak peek" of a new show that will debut next year (I think) called Interiors, Inc. It was so brief, I couldn't tell much about it, like where it was based. My curiosity piqued, I, of course, looked for more information online. It turns out, it's set in Nashville! Oh yes, the new design mecca. After further investigation, I found out it follows the crew at Pierce & Co. on their decorating escapades around town. I used to stop in Pierce & Co. when my hair salon was next door (my stylist moved a while back so I don't drop in like I used to). Here's a clip from the show . . .

It's a very cool store (not sure why they feel the need to call it a gallery) with some interesting things - all a bit pricey. If memory serves, they carry Jonathan Adler, Oly Studios, Lee Industries and maybe Arteriors Home, among other lines. After doing a little further digging on owner Jonathan Pierce, I found out he used to be a Christian Music artist (there are a lot of those around Nashville because it is Music City and all), then decided to open his design business about 10 years ago. As you might expect, he has some connections and thus some bigwig clients.

So, the sneak preview premieres tonight at 10/9, Central on HGTV right after Design Star (yikes). I'll be tuning in if nothing else to see my city featured.

Hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

X-ceptional Makeover

I've been a little under the weather this week . . . think our whole family has a low-grade virus. Anyway, I just wanted to check in and share a great X bench makeover I ran across recently in the blog world. I "blog-met" sweet Hilary from Mrs. Dow-Ward's Neighborhood when she left a comment asking about some items in my antique booth. After further emailing, I realized she also works at Worlds Away and is the person responsible for their blog. So, of course she has fabulous taste! Without further ado, here is her X bench makeover . . .
First, she purchased this X bench from Target . . . I didn't even know they carried these. You can find them online for $79.99, plus free shipping. Not super cheap but compared to other X benches, not bad either.

Then, she tried her hand at recovering it in a cotton canvas.
She felt it was just "okay" and might be lacking something. So, then she turned it over to the artisan at Worlds Away (a nice perk of working there) and voila . . .
Doesn't it look fabulous?! I didn't get all the details but it looks like the base has been gold leafed (or painted with gold leaf paint, at least) and possibly rubbed for an aged finish. Not to be left out, the top got a sumptuous chocolate velvet makeover as well.  Yum.
Hilary now loves the way it fits in with the rest of her furniture and decor. Check out that chair, by the way. I would die for that. The stool definitely looks like something right out of Worlds Away and is somewhat similar to the St. Regis stool from Amy Howard:
You must check out Hilary's blog if you haven't . . . she's got really great style!

Scott's and More

I returned late Saturday from my whirlwind trip to Atlanta. So much fun and shopping crammed into a day and a half. First, my friend Becky and I met up with Sissy from Blue Hydrangea on Friday morning at Scott's Antique Market. We shopped and talked and had a ball . . . like we had known each other for years. We ran into some other bloggers along the way, like Jenny from My Favorite and My Best . . .
Me, Jenny and Sissy. Don't we look angelic in the sunbeams?
Let me just say, that Sissy does not mess around. She is a woman on a mission and because of that determination found some great stuff. She has a great eye and went after the bargains with zest. I felt like I'd found a kindred spirit.
Sissy working the bargain table.
There were so many beautiful things, but I was so busy running my mouth that I forgot to snap photos of a lot of them. Here are the things I did manage to photograph . . .
Loved this mirrored Greek key coffee table. It was sold not long after we first saw it.

Cool mid-century lucite chairs.
Great rattan hanging egg chair.
I know I have an obsession with faux bamboo Chinoiserie chairs but these were nickel. Awesomeness.
I so should have bought this pretty watercolor. Loved the colors and the brass frame.

And the find of the day! Sissy got four of these fiberglass chairs for a steal. I'm sure she'll blog about it. Just had to share how cool these are.

In the afternoon, I met up with Angela from The Painted House at Scott's and shopped for a bit. She was so sweet and charming, just like she is on her blog. I also had the pleasure of meeting Sherry from Design Indulgence (who has been so kind and helpful during my blogging experience) and Emily from Emily A. Clark. Everyone was so nice and fun. Design bloggers are a great bunch to hang out with.

So, what did I buy at Scott's? A yard of this geometric maze/Greek key velvet fabric. I love it so.
Later that evening, we even got the opportunity to meet up for dinner at JCT Kitchen. Yum. Such a fun night!
Angela, Sherry, Sissy, my friend Becky and me at dinner. Sherry, sorry I got you blinking.

The next morning, we hit IKEA.
Becky scored some loot. I just bought a couple of things. The main thing was this light fixture for Meg's room. It's too cute.
Unfortunately, the lucite chairs I wanted were out of stock. Boo. Maybe another time.
Then it was back to Nashville and reality. I hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did!

Atlanta Bound

Road trip! I'm thrilled to be heading to Atlanta later today. It will be a girls trip as my friend Becky will accompany me for what girls do best . . . shop. Specifically, shop for "stuff" at Scott's tomorrow.
A little chest I spied last year at Scott's but regretfully did not buy!

I'm even more excited about meeting some of my blogging friends down there as well . . . finally, in person, after adoring their blogs from afar. I feel a bit like a stalker, but hopefully it will be a blog lovefest. I'll try and take lots of photos to share later.

Since I may not be back to blog until Sunday or Monday, have a wonderful weekend, and if you're anywhere near the Atlanta area please come join us!
