I'm Feeling Blue

Oh, no, not sad. Just blue. Like this . . .
Or maybe this . . .
You see, I finally bought the Champion Cobalt on Sunday and started painting my dining room . . .
My husband made me do this. Yes, I'm wearing pajama bottoms at 5 p.m. at night. So what?
and I've been covered in blue paint for the past three days. It is seriously about the color of a Blue Man. I wonder if their shade is Champion Cobalt as well? I could join their group.
Child labor is okay, right? They only painted for about 10 minutes so it wasn't too taxing.
I swear my dining table is not red.
After one coat, it looked like a bad denim faux finish. Then it became obvious it would take three coats. Luckily, it's a very small room with only three walls (open floorplan). I still have to finish the trim area around the top and the vent. I hate that stupid vent in the middle of the wall. The people who used to live here painted it the wall color initially so we've just kept doing that. It actually does blend in better than a white vent or one of those fancy vents. Plus, you know I camouflage it with furniture as I'm apt to do. "What? There's a vent there? No, no, you must be mistaken." Deny, deny, deny.
I see you brown column. Your day is coming soon!
Here's a sneak peak of the finished wall with the mirror up. I'll do a final reveal once I'm totally done and have all the furniture/accessories back in. I really like it now, but can't wait to see it all done!

Finds

I just couldn't take it. I had to go back and grab one of the treasures I left at the antique mall last Thursday. Some of you may remember the brass peacock?

He has a new home . . .
I'm not sure where he'll end up, but for now he's happy. I'm happy too because he was 25% off!

While I was there I also got these hobnail candlestick holders for 50% off.

Over the weekend, I went to a Designer Tag Sale at the Sohr residence that I read about on Kayce Hughes blog. I didn't get much (lots of stuff had big SOLD signs already attached), but did manage to grab a white porcelain lamp (like I don't have enough), a vintage gold handbag with bamboo closure and a brand new make-up bag - all for about $35. The Sohrs have amazing style (their homes have been featured in Domino, Better Homes & Gardens and more recently Cookie), and they could not have been nicer or more accommodating as people ransacked their home trying to snag their stylish goods.

Here are my finds from their house:

And lastly, if you live in the Atlanta area (or know of someone who does), there's a great trunk show coming your way that you should check out.
I know Elizabeth Trabue of Trabeautiful Designs from our stint teaching Sunday School together (well, I'm not sure we actually taught the 3-year-olds in our care much - it was more like herding cats). She's extremely talented and her stationery is so elegant, I highly suggest you get some. I met her friend Carol Fails of All Strung Out Designs at one of their Nashville trunk shows. Last fall, I purchased one of the coolest bracelets I've ever owned from ASOD as an early Christmas present. Carol lets you choose from an assortment of vintage pins she's acquired and then attaches it to a horn cuff for a one-of-a-kind piece. Very chic.
I get so many compliments on this bracelet. It's one of my favorite pieces of jewelry and seems to go with most anything. If you can't make it to the trunk show, check out her website for some beautiful pieces and let me know which is your favorite.

Feeling Blue?

I know I am.
And by blue, I don't mean sad or depressed. Quite the contrary.
I am loving me some blue lately. Especially the deep saturated blues. Peacock blue. Prussian blue or (gasp) teal, even.

I'm not sure if I'm up for painting a whole room yet. Maybe just my closet.

Here's a swatch I painted. And yes, my college diploma is in my closet. Isn't yours?

For now, I've just been adding pops of this blue (and other shades too) throughout the house.

My foo dogs protect the mess on my desk while adding some much needed color to my bedroom. I know they may be so last season, but I still love them anyway. Just as I love the slightly, um, unusual paper weight (just to the left of the foo dog) my daughter made in art last year. I'm calling it folk art.

What color are you "feeling" right now?
