Photo Dump

I hate to put the word dump in my post title, but there it is. I downloaded photos from my phone yesterday after a few recent scouting trips for either myself or others, so thought I would share what I found impressive enough to photograph. First up, a store called Merridian. I don't go in there very often, but they usually have some nice pieces like these chocolate velvet tufted chairs. Yummy. They were super comfortable too.
They also had these interesting little gingko leaves to use as trays or wall art.
Some cool pillows from Ryan Studios. I saw this vendor at High Point. Good stuff.
Greek Key rug, Frenchy chairs.
Vintage Chinese dragon rug. A little pricey but very unique.
A great geometric rug in citron and gray. A very now color combination.

Next, I wouldn't be me if I didn't hit a thrift store, so here's what I found at the Habitat Home store . . .
Some sort of hybrid campaign/bamboo furniture. Can't decide if I like it or not. Hmm.

I've been drawn to a lot of green pieces lately. This moire fabric armchair was in really good shape except for some wear on the arms. And look, it's by Hickory Chair. Not bad for $50.
See, another green chair. I like the nailheads. Very regal looking. Not my style but could be a stand-out in the right space.

A few days later, I was in Belle Meade waiting for a prescription so I poked around at some of their consignment and antique shops. Belle Meade is a very nice (read: wealthy) part of town, so this is not necessarily where you look for bargains but instead investment pieces.

First, the Stock Market Consignment Shop had this beauty.
Again, with the green. Sorry, but I could not resist. Look at all the beautiful details on this piece . . .

This piece was originally a radio cabinet but the most recent owners used it as a bar - they sound like my kind of people. The cabinet opens on one side and swivels on the base. I've never seen anything quite like it. Oh, and it's only green on one side. Crazy. But I think I'm in love with it.
The inside could use some work. Wish I had gotten a better shot of how it swivels, but trust me, it's cool.

Next, I stopped in the Shoppes of Belle Meade, their antique mall. Some seriously pretty things for seriously nice prices.
The wood on this chest of drawers was stunning.
Loved the shape of these chairs. And the antique tapestry thrown over one had the most amazing colors in it.

A wavy horn mirror.
See, I'm not the only one who likes dolphins.
Theirs are a lot pricier than mine.
Huge, dramatic carved wooden urns. Would make quite a statement in the right space.
Pretty pillow.
Couldn't resist these beautiful boxes.
A Chinese Chippendale chair. I also can't resist chinoiserie.

Hoofed tables are all the rage too.
More green.

And the detail on this chair about killed me it was so pretty. As was the coral silk fabric and the shape. Maybe one day.
And last but not least, more green!

Hope you enjoyed what caught my eye . . . a little virtual shopping spree. Have you seen any goodies lately?

Crazy Good or Just Plain Crazy?

Before hitting the flea market on Friday, I stopped by a few estate sales. As usual, I had more luck at the one I just "happened" upon after seeing a sign on a street corner. I found nothing at the Flea Market. Nothing. Nada. I think I was just too hot and distracted. Oh well. On the way home, I hit a junk/antique store I had never been in before and found this . . .
Am I nuts for liking this? I've never seen anything like it, which I must admit was part of the allure. Of course, the Asian influence didn't hurt either, plus the bamboo/glass frame - so unique. It's a needlepoint piece which intrigued me even more.
I think it would look great as the centerpiece of a room. I love the glass detail because it would allow your wall color to peek through and provide a contrast.
Needlepoint has experienced a resurgence in popularity lately in great part thanks to Jonathan Adler and his quirky and quaint needlepoint pillows that he uses throughout his interiors . . .

I love the homespun quality of needlepoint juxtaposed with modern patterns.

Some other little goodies I found at the aforementioned estate sale include an unframed oil or acrylic painting . . .
Really like the colors in this one.
a framed piece of painted silk artwork . . .

and lastly, a small mid-century bench which could use some new upholstery, but I love the shape.
All these pieces will make an appearance in the blogger Tag Sale (unless I decide to keep the stool for my son's room) we're hosting on October 1st. I know I keep teasing this, but I promise we'll be sharing more details soon (like the location and time) once details are hammered out.

Hope everyone has a Happy Monday!

Shopping Update

Over the weekend, I managed to hit up a few of the estate sales I mentioned in my last post. Unfortunately, none of the featured items made it home with me (not that they were supposed to; you must understand when I find these things I'm often just pointing out pretty stuff not necessarily stuff I need).

Here's what I did bring home . . .
some brass accessories for the booth (or possibly Etsy - just another option I'm considering). These were from the same sale as this sofa . . .
which was in really good shape, actually. It was still there on the second day (which is when I went), so it was half price. Not a bad deal, and I'm still considering it for my basement (if I ever get around to renovating it into the space of my dreams). It might still be available. Hmm.

I also picked up these lovelies at TJ Maxx (it was around the corner from one of the estate sales, how could I resist?) . . .
The cutest beach bag . . .
and this hat and metallic linen espadrille wedges. Can you guess where I'm going soon? I just started reading the book on Thursday and love it!

Regarding the other items I saw at the estate sales, here are some updates:
This desk . . .
was priced at $1,200!! Yes, you read that right. And it was even more gorgeous in person. The sticker on the table read: "T. Frist" (all the items from this sale were from 8 different families/estates). Which I'm assuming meant Thomas Frist. For those of you not from Nashville/Tennessee, the Frists are, ahem, extremely wealthy. So, I think the desk was a little out of my tax bracket.

The next four items were actually part of an auction, not a traditional estate sale, and unfortunately, I had my daughter with me and my mother and son waiting at home for us, so we couldn't really sit through a 3+ hour auction. Bummer. One day, I would love to hit an auction and bid . . . ah, the thrill and emotion (I could conceivably get carried away though).
The marble top was not as pretty in person, but the drawers were beautiful. Overall, it was stunning, though.
Couldn't even find this, and the auction people were assisting others. Oh well.
This was up on a high shelf so I couldn't even get a good look or sit on it.
And this vase was tiny in person. So disappointing!
The other items were from a sale I couldn't make it to. So, not a total bust, but nothing earth-shattering. Oh well. I still love the thrill of the hunt. Have you found any great treasures lately?

Finds

I just couldn't take it. I had to go back and grab one of the treasures I left at the antique mall last Thursday. Some of you may remember the brass peacock?

He has a new home . . .
I'm not sure where he'll end up, but for now he's happy. I'm happy too because he was 25% off!

While I was there I also got these hobnail candlestick holders for 50% off.

Over the weekend, I went to a Designer Tag Sale at the Sohr residence that I read about on Kayce Hughes blog. I didn't get much (lots of stuff had big SOLD signs already attached), but did manage to grab a white porcelain lamp (like I don't have enough), a vintage gold handbag with bamboo closure and a brand new make-up bag - all for about $35. The Sohrs have amazing style (their homes have been featured in Domino, Better Homes & Gardens and more recently Cookie), and they could not have been nicer or more accommodating as people ransacked their home trying to snag their stylish goods.

Here are my finds from their house:

And lastly, if you live in the Atlanta area (or know of someone who does), there's a great trunk show coming your way that you should check out.
I know Elizabeth Trabue of Trabeautiful Designs from our stint teaching Sunday School together (well, I'm not sure we actually taught the 3-year-olds in our care much - it was more like herding cats). She's extremely talented and her stationery is so elegant, I highly suggest you get some. I met her friend Carol Fails of All Strung Out Designs at one of their Nashville trunk shows. Last fall, I purchased one of the coolest bracelets I've ever owned from ASOD as an early Christmas present. Carol lets you choose from an assortment of vintage pins she's acquired and then attaches it to a horn cuff for a one-of-a-kind piece. Very chic.
I get so many compliments on this bracelet. It's one of my favorite pieces of jewelry and seems to go with most anything. If you can't make it to the trunk show, check out her website for some beautiful pieces and let me know which is your favorite.
