Come and Get It

Okay, it's almost here. The Tag Sale event of the year. Saturday is the day. Here is a small preview of some of my items up for sale.

Sorry, but the majority of these shots were taken in my dark, disgusting basement. But, if I get it cleaned out it could be transformed. So, you have to help me by coming and buying my stuff. It's really cool. I promise.

Hope to see you there . . .

Random Bits of Fall

Thank you for all your sweet comments about my recent makeovers. Two down, about a hundred to go. Projects just seem to multiply around our house. Now, on to fall . . . what a glorious time of year. Along with millions of other people, it's my favorite season for lots of reasons - the crisp, boot/jean-wearing weather, the beautiful changing of the leaves and, of course, football. Since it is now officially fall, here is a random smattering of fall-ness (just made that word up).

First, I got my fall pedicure yesterday when my daughter and I enjoyed a little mother-daughter time. Usually, I go really dark (deep purple, almost black), but this time I opted for OPI's "You Don't Know Jacques," a taupe-y gray. Love it . . .
Now, I need the perfect peep-toe shoes to show off my new pedi. Maybe these from Piperlime . . .
Okay, I would totally fall over in these, but I can still dream of being chic like Rachel Zoe (who chose these as one of her "picks," by the way). I was mainly seduced by the leopard. Speaking of leopard, I've been dying over green and leopard together lately both in fashion and in the home (one follows the other, right?). Observe.

And one of my new favorites from Veranda's House of Windsor, this room by Peter Dunham.

This room is so cozy and enveloping . . . the perfect spot to escape to and relax on a fall day.

Happy fall, everyone, and stay tuned for sneak peeks of items from Saturday's Tag Sale. That's right, it is upon us . . . four days and counting. Hooray!

Makeover

While out running errands the other day, I popped into Homegoods since I had not been in quite some time. During a drive-by of the home section, a little table caught my eye. Specifically, its shape.
I was not a fan of the leopard-printed surface (now, don't get me wrong, I love leopard, but not in this context. I'd much rather have it on a pillow). But, at $20 the price was right, and I had some ideas of how I could transform it. So, home it went. Here it is in my driveway.

Some of my inspirations. These are a little bit smaller and are called "cigar tables" but I can't see anyone using these to hold their tobacco products.

So, I got out my black lacquer spray paint and my gold leaf, and several hours later I came up with this . . .
I love the look. I've been digging black and gold together lately. Pretty good for a $20 table. I already had the supplies, so just my labor was involved. Gold leafing is not an easy process but I alternately love it and hate it. Being covered in gold flakes is not fun, and the process is messy and time-consuming. But, there's something satisfying about rubbing the gold onto the surface and seeing the furniture transform. I would probably be smart to get a piece of glass cut to fit the top, but I'm not sure I'm feeling that ambitious right now.

Also, in the makeover vein, I recently recovered my Frances Elkins knock-off loop chair in Braemore's Flowering Branch fabric.
Don't mind the junk on the chest in the background. Or the messy shoe basket. I did not style this.
Here's what the chair looked like when I bought it over a year ago. Plain cream chenille. Kind of blah.
It will reside in the front entry adjacent to the dining room.

I must have thrown a dozen fabric samples on this chair over the past year, but could never find one that I loved until now. It was a very basic upholstery job (tear off the old fabric, staple on the new and cover the staples with trim), otherwise I would not have attempted it. I'm liking the way it turned out.

Have you done any makeovers recently?

Tag

Yes, I'm doing more shameless promotion for our Tag Sale coming up next Saturday, October 1. Just a reminder . . .
And here are some recent goodies I found for the sale. I'm shopping for you, people. All very selfless I assure you.
Brass pagoda lamp.

Brass garden seat.

Large blue coral. Set it anywhere.
But, if you can't wait till next Saturday, there's another "tag" in town. Recently, another mom friend of mine opened her own shop called "tag" in the Bellevue area of Nashville.
Her concept is very cool . . . her shop is open every other week on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays . . . sort of like a flea market or tag sale. The other weekends, she's out scouting finds to fill the shop. Jennifer has a wonderful eye and likes Chinoiserie/Chinese Chippendale as much as I do. No wonder I like her. Here are some of her recent treasures.
This pagoda mirror is to die for, and it's at a fabulous price.
The interior of her shop is a beautiful pink. Even the floor is pink. It truly sets off the merchandise. My sad iPhone photos do not do the color justice (sorry, it almost looks orange in some pictures). To give you a better idea, the store immediately reminded me of this fabulous entry in House Beautiful . . .
More of the items up for sale . . .

So, the next time "tag" is open is tomorrow, Thursday, September 22. If you're in the Nashville area, you should definitely stop in!

Light-Hearted

On this gloomy, rainy Monday here in Nashville, I thought I would talk about lighting. Specifically, the very cool lighting featured in our new Nordstrom store here in Music City. Yes, we finally got a Nordstrom. We are so happy. I can't afford much in there, but did manage to get some Tom's shoes for my daughter. But, back to the lighting . . . I mainly loved the way the store set the mood in different departments with varied options. First up, the men's department.
Once again, my apologies for my iPhone photos. I was ill-prepared.
Love the black metal pendants with copper interiors. So manly.
This was opening day on Friday. It was a zoo, of course. My husband and I snuck in for about 45 minutes before going to meet the kids at the bus stop.

Next, I spotted these little beauties in the women's clothing department (I think) . . .
I could be wrong, but I think they're the Tom Dixon "Etch" pendants from Design Within Reach. Love these.

These elegant crystal sputnik lovelies were in the shoe department. And yes, I did look at the shoes too.

Juniors got the rustic painted iron chandelier.

And, the denim department had these industrial-looking orbs with wire and twine (it looked like twine anyway). I don't know much about retail design, but the lighting definitely made an impression on me. Of course, the rest of the store looked nice too and gave off a very chic vibe. Or maybe I was just so excited that we finally have a Nordstrom, I overlooked any faults.

And since we're on the subject of lighting, I couldn't tell you why, but lately I have been seriously lusting after a Serge Mouille black lamp or light fixture. I don't care which. Here are some examples:

I keep hoping I'll just run across one somewhere for a steal (like $5, ha), and it's just not happening.

I think what clinched it is that I saw one featured in the new Veranda in the family room Windsor Smith (who doesn't love that woman?) designed for the House of Windsor, Veranda's first-ever "concept house" in Los Angeles.

See the Mouille light fixture just peeking out at the top of the photo? This is from the preview party that Cococozy attended.

Another photo of the room from a different angle.

If you have not purchased the new Veranda, do yourself a favor and run out and get it. So much pretty eye candy. This room by Windsor was my favorite, followed in a close second by Peter Dunham's guest room/study (that will require a different post). I thought it showed her versatility and didn't immediately scream "Windsor Smith." I loved the kitchen too, but it was more classic Windsor (dining table in the middle of the kitchen with beautiful mismatched chairs and elegant drum pendants overhead, etc.).

Okay, sorry I've rambled from Nordstrom to Serge Mouille to Windsor Smith all in one post. Whew, I feel a little schizophrenic. But, it was all related. Sort of. Are you obsessed with any particular lighting lately?
