Desperately Seeking Susan

Since you savvy blog-readers know about all things cool, I'm reaching out to you on behalf of my sister Susan who is desperately seeking hotel accommodations in Midtown Manhattan for early December. She and her husband Jay are celebrating their 15th anniversary that month and want to find a nice but not crazy expensive option. Since it's been about 9 years since I've been to NYC (how sad is that?) for a visit, I'm not the best resource. So, I thought I would ask you, dear readers, if you have any tips for my sister?

If I had to pick a place based on looks alone, I would choose the Ace Hotel designed by the fabulous designing duo of Roman and Williams. Has anyone been here? Is it as cool as it looks?

Or, there is The Standard which was also designed by Roman and Williams, but I think it's in Downtown Manhattan. But just in case, here's a glimpse of its 18th floor.
Ah, heavenly.

Oh, and if you have any restaurant suggestions those would be much appreciated too. Way back when, we ate at Aureole, and it was sublime, but I'm sure there are other tasty options out there as well.

Susan and Jay thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Not sure if this is midtown enough, but we stayed at the W Union Square last time and it was pretty convenient.

I am also not sure if this is in the definition of mid town but The Gramercy Park Hotel was great. It is in a neighborhood and the bar was super old school cool. Love the color combo that the basement is headed by the way...It's going to be your favorite room in the house when you get finished.

At Memorial Day, we stayed at the Hilton on Avenue of the Americas. It was very convenient to lots of attractions. We ate at Gaetana's in Greenwich (Yummy Italian owned by my neighbor's family). Such an awesome place to visit!!

Pastis was one of my favorite places to eat dinner when I lived there. The vibe is very french chic and you always run into someone famous which is kinda cool.

I've never been to NYC, but we're planning on going next year. If Susan stays somewhere good you'll have to report back to us! Make her take decor pics too ;). Tell her it's her duty as the sister of a blogger!

we've stayed at Hudson a couple times. I liked it and I think the price was pretty good for it's location.

We stayed at The London, Gordon Ramsey's hotel in Midtown. It was reasonable and the rooms are new and little suites, which is tons of space for Manhattan! I think the most romantic meal in NYC is The River Cafe. Worth the price!!!!
