Where the Antelope Play

Antelope carpet has been all over blogs and the internet for a few years now, and some have labeled it as trendy. However, when does something rise above just being popular or having trendy status to that of being a classic? We often refer to other exotic animal prints such as leopard, zebra and tiger as classic, why not antelope too?

Personally, I love it. Of course, there's the Stark Antelope that everyone is familiar with (featured in the photos above), but there are other options out there at different price points as well. Karastan actually has an antelope pattern (which the Karastan rep at High Point Market had no clue about, I might add), which has got a lot more taupe in it I believe.
Karastan's antelope.
Couristan has its own version . . .

which looks a lot like the Stark version, I think.

Then, there's a company called Glen Eden which has its own version of Antelope as well.

This photo above is from Glen Eden's site. After doing some more digging, it looks like the antelope carpet in Sally Wheat's home may be from Glen Eden too (this is what was divulged in Cote de Texas' lengthy comment section) . . .

Pretty snazzy, huh? I have not seen any of these in person, just going by what I've seen online. But I think there might be some more affordable antelope options than Stark out there. That gives a girl hope. I won't be buying any new rugs or carpets anytime soon with a new puppy in the house, but when the time comes these would be some great options.

What do you think? Could the antelope play in your house?

i ADORE antelope! total classic. it's so lovely and calm.
but there's still pattern. perfect for people who are afraid of too much pattern. and it fits in with so many decor styles. i'd say that makes it a classic.

I've never seen this before! I like it in the first two photos -- not so sure about the later ones. Looks like a great neutral though!

I love it in those first 3 photos. It's subtle. And doesn't seem to scream out animal print as boldly as the other classics you mentioned.

I'm also loving pictures hung on the outside of bookshelves. I love how that gives it an extra layer of interest.

Holy cow I love antelope and looked into doing it on my staircase at the house we're renovating but boy was it pricey!!! Anyway, I found an antelope area rug on clearance last week - just $100 for a 6x9. Apparently folks in Tunnel Hill GA haven't latched on to this trend yet, haha! (Yeah, it's mine!)

I love this subtle take on animal print, and it seems especially fitting for a glamorous reading room or dining room.

Where have I been??? I'm going to make myself look like a completely design doof and say that I've never heard of antelope carpet before! And it's a classic too?! Sheesh. That's why I religiously follow your blog, Kathy, because you know what all the cool kids know!

I love my antelope carpet. It has been in my master bedroom for many years. While it is stylish, it does hard labor when it comes to kids and animals.... it is so forgiving.

Check out Pretty Pink Tulips blog... I think I remember that she just did antelope on her stairs and landings. Looks so fine.

I think about this question all the time. When does a trend become a design style or a classic staple? As for the antelope - LOVE it and it feels like it will become a classic to me. Just a feeling! M.
